The Passing Of The Hawthorn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD

The coming of the hawthorn brings on earthA
Heaven all the spring speaks out in one sweet wordB
And heaven grows gladder knowing that earth has heardB
Ere half the flowers are jubilant in birthA
The splendour of the laughter of their mirthA
Dazzles delight with wonder man and birdB
Rejoice and worship stilled at heart and stirredB
With rapture girt about with awe for girthA
The passing of the hawthorn takes awayC
Heaven all the spring falls dumb and all the soulD
Sinks down in man for sorrow Night and dayC
Forego the joy that made them one and wholeD
The change that falls on every starry sprayC
Bids flower by flower the knell of springtime tollD
