The Augurs Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAACCADDADAA

Lay the corpse out on the altar bid the electA
Slaves clear the ways of service spiritualB
Sweep clean the stalled soul's serviceable stallC
Ere the chief priest's dismantling hands detectA
The ulcerous flesh of faith all scaled and speckedA
Beneath the bandages that hid it allC
And with sharp edgetools oecumenicalC
The leprous carcases of creeds dissectA
As on the night ere Brutus grew divineD
The sick souled augurs found their ox or swineD
Heartless so now too by their after artA
In the same Rome at an uncleaner shrineD
Limb from rank limb and putrid part from partA
They carve the corpse a beast without a heartA
