Between the springs of six and sevenB
Two fresh years' fountains clearC
Of all but golden sand for leavenB
Child midway passing hereD
As earth for love's sake dares bless heavenB
So dare I bless you dearC
Between two bright well heads that brightenB
With every breath that blowsE
Too loud to lull too low to frightenB
But fain to rock the roseE
Your feet stand fast your lit smiles lightenB
That might rear flowers from snowsE
You came when winds unleashed were snarlingF
Behind the frost bound hoursG
A snow bird sturdier than the starlingF
A storm bird fledged for showersG
That spring might smile to find you darlingF
First born of all the flowersG
Could love make worthy things of worthlessH
My song were worth an earD
Its note should make the days most mirthlessH
The merriest of the yearC
And wake to birth all buds yet birthlessH
To keep your birthday dearC
But where your birthday brightens heavenB
No need has earth God knowsH
Of light or warmth to melt or leavenB
The frost or fog that glowsH
With sevenfold heavenly lights of sevenB
Sweet springs that cleave the snowsH
Could love make worthy music of youI
And match my Master's powersH
Had even my love less heart to love youI
A better song were oursH
With all the rhymes like stars above youI
And all the words like flowersH
