On The Russian Persecution Of The Jews: Sonnets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEEEE

O SON of man by lying tongues adoredA
By slaughterous hands of slaves with feet red shodB
In carnage deep as ever Christian trodB
Profaned with prayer and sacrifice abhorredA
And incense from the trembling tyrant s hordeA
Brute worshippers or wielders of the rodB
Most murderous even of all that call thee GodB
Most treacherous even that ever called thee LordA
Face loved of little children long agoC
Head hated of the priests and rulers thenD
If thou see this or hear these hounds of thineE
Run ravening as the Gadarean swineE
Say was not this thy Passion to foreknowE
In death s worst hour the works of Christian menE
