Kind wise and true as truth's own heartA
A soul that hereB
Chose and held fast the better partA
And cast out fearC
Has left us ere we dreamed of deathD
For life so strongE
Clear as the sundawn's light and breathD
And sweet as songE
We see no more what here awhileF
Shed light on menG
Has Landor seen that brave bright smileF
Alive againG
If death and life and love be oneH
And hope no lieI
And night no stronger than the sunH
These cannot dieI
The father spirit whence her soulJ
Took strength and gaveK
Back love is perfect yet and wholeJ
As hope might craveK
His word is living light and fireL
And hers shall liveM
By grace of all good gifts the sireL
Gave power to giveN
The sire and daughter twain and oneH
In quest and goalJ
Stand face to face beyond the sunH
And soul to soulJ
Not we who loved them well may dreamO
What joy sublimeP
Is theirs if dawn through darkness gleamO
And life through timeP
Time seems but here the mask of deathD
That falls and showsQ
A void where hope may draw not breathD
Night only knowsQ
Love knows not all that love may keepR
Glad memory givesS
The spirit of the days that sleepR
Still wakes and livesS
But not the spirit's self though songE
Would lend it speechT
May touch the goal that hope might longE
In vain to reachT
How dear that high true heart how sweetU
Those keen kind eyesV
Love knows who knows how fiery fleetU
Is life that fliesV
If life there be that flies not fairW
The life must beX
That thrills her sovereign spirit thereW
And sets it freeX
