Non Dolet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDDCEE

It does not hurt She looked along the knifeA
Smiling and watched the thick drops mix and runB
Down the sheer blade not that which had been doneB
Could hurt the sweet sense of the Roman wifeA
But that which was to do yet ere the strifeA
Could end for each for ever and the sunB
Nor was the palm yet nor was peace yet wonB
While pain had power upon her husband's lifeA
-
It does not hurt Italia Thou art moreC
Than bride to bridegroom how shalt thou not takeD
The gift love's blood has reddened for thy sakeD
Was not thy lifeblood given for us beforeC
And if love's heartblood can avail thy needE
And thou not die how should it hurt indeedE
