STAND UP stand up thou May JanetA
And go to the wars with meB
He s drawn her by both handsC
With her face against the seaB
-
He that strews red shall gather whiteD
He that sows white reap redE
Before your face and my daughter sF
Meet in a marriage bedE
-
Gold coin shall grow in the yellow fieldG
Green corn in the green sea waterH
And red fruit grow of the rose s redE
Ere your fruit grow in herH
-
But I shall have her by land he saidE
Or I shall have her by seaB
Or I shall have her by strong treasonI
And no grace go with meB
-
Her father s drawn her by both handsC
He s rent her gown from herH
He s ta en the smock round her bodyB
Cast in the sea waterH
-
The captain s drawn her by both sidesJ
Out of the fair green seaB
Stand up stand up thou May JanetA
And come to the war with meB
-
The first town they came toK
There was a blue bride chamberH
He clothed her on with silkL
And belted her with amberH
-
The second town they came toK
The bridesmen feasted knee to kneeB
He clothed her on with silverH
A stately thing to seeB
-
The third town they came toK
The bridesmaids all had gowns of goldM
He clothed her on with purpleN
A rich thing to beholdM
-
The last town they came toK
He clothed her white and redE
With a green flag either side of herH
And a gold flag overheadE
