John Day: Xiii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDDCCD

DAY was a full blown flower in heaven aliveA
With murmuring joy of bees and birds aswarmB
When in the skies of song yet flushed and warmB
With music where all passion seems to striveA
For utterance all things bright and fierce to driveA
Struggling along the splendour of the stormB
Day for an hour put off his fiery formB
And golden murmurs from a golden hiveA
Across the strong bright summer wind were heardC
And laughter soft as smiles from girls at playD
And loud from lips of boys brow bound with MayD
Our mightiest age let fall its gentlest wordC
When Song in semblance of a sweet small birdC
Lit fluttering on the light swift hand of DayD
