George Chapman:xi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACCDCDD

HIGH priest of Homer not elect in vainA
Deep trumpets blow before thee shawms behindB
Mix music with the rolling wheels that windB
Slow through the labouring triumph of thy trainA
Fierce history molten in thy forging brainA
Takes form and fire and fashion from thy mindB
Tormented and transmuted out of kindB
But howsoe er thou shift thy strenuous strainA
Like Tailor smooth like Fisher swollen and nowC
Grim Yarrington scarce bloodier marked than thouC
Then bluff as Mayne s or broad mouthed Barry s gleeD
Proud still with hoar predominance of browC
And beard like foam swept off the broad blown seaD
Where er thou go men s reverence goes with theeD
