Euonymos - Sonnets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDABBAEEFGFH

A year ago red wrath and keen despairA
Spake and the sole word from their darkness sentB
Laid low the lord not all omnipotentC
Who stood most like a god of all that wereD
As gods for pride of power till fire and airA
Made earth of all his godhead Lightning rentB
The heart of empire's lurid firmamentB
And laid the mortal core of manhood bareA
But when the calm crowned head that all revereE
For valour higher than that which casts out fearE
Since fear came near it never comes near deathF
Blind murder cowers before it knowing that hereG
No braver soul drew bright and queenly breathF
Since England wept upon ElizabethH
