Dickens: Sonnets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECFE

CHIEF in thy generation born of menA
Whom English praise acclaimed as English bornB
With eyes that matched the worldwide eyes of mornB
For gleam of tears or laughter tenderest thenA
When thoughts of children warmed their light or whenA
Reverence of age with love and labour wornB
Or godlike pity fired with godlike scornB
Shot through them flame that winged thy swift live penA
Where stars and suns that we behold not burnC
Higher even than here though highest was here thy placeD
Love sees thy spirit laugh and speak and shineE
With Shakespeare and the soft bright soul of SterneC
And Fielding s kindliest might and Goldsmith s grace jF
Scarce one more loved or worthier love than thineE
