Ave Atque Vale: 13 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCDEEDE

For sparing of his sacred strength not oftenA
Among us darkling here the lord of lightB
Makes manifest his music and his mightB
In hearts that open and in lips that softenA
With the soft flame and heat of songs that shineC
Thy lips indeed he touched with bitter wineC
And nourished them indeed with bitter breadD
Yet surely from his hand thy soul's food cameE
The fire that scarred thy spirit at his flameE
Was lighted and thine hungering heart he fedD
Who feeds our hearts with fameE
