The Sailor Boy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH I IJ KLKL

He rose at dawn and fired with hopeA
Shot o'er the seething harbour barB
And reach'd the ship and caught the ropeA
And whistled to the morning starB
-
And while he whistled long and loudC
He heard a fierce mermaiden cryD
O boy tho' thou are young and proudC
I see the place where thou wilt lieD
-
The sands and yeasty surges mixE
In caves about the dreary bayF
And on thy ribs the limpet sticksE
And in thy heart the scrawl shall playF
-
Fool he answer'd death is sureG
To those that stay and those that roamH
But I will nevermore endureG
To sit with empty hands at homeH
-
My mother clings about my neckI
My sisters crying Stay for shame '-
My father raves of death and wreckI
They are all to blame they are all to blameJ
-
God help me save I take my partK
Of danger on the roaring seaL
A devil rises in my heartK
Far worse than any death to meL
