Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDBEB FGHGIGJ

The rain had fallen the Poet aroseA
He pass'd by the town and out of the streetB
A light wind blew from the gates of the sunC
And waves of shadow went over the wheatB
And he sat him down in a lonely placeD
And chanted a melody loud and sweetB
That made the wild swan pause in her cloudE
And the lark drop down at his feetB
-
-
The swallow stopt as he hunted the flyF
The snake slipt under a sprayG
The wild hawk stood with the down on his beakH
And stared with his foot on the preyG
And the nightingale thought 'I have sung many songsI
But never a one so gayG
For he sings of what the world will beJ
When the years have died away '-
