Old Yew which graspest at the stonesB
That name the under lying deadC
Thy fibres net the dreamless headC
Thy roots are wrapt about the bonesB
The seasons bring the flower againD
And bring the firstling to the flockE
And in the dusk of thee the clockE
Beats out the little lives of menD
O not for thee the glow the bloomF
Who changest not in any galeG
Nor branding summer suns availG
To touch thy thousand years of gloomF
-
And gazing on thee sullen treeH
Sick for thy stubborn hardihoodC
I seem to fail from out my bloodC
And grow incorporate into theeH

Alfred Lord Tennyson
