Tell me not here it needs not sayingA
What tune the enchantress playsB
In aftermaths of soft SeptemberC
Or under blanching maysB
For she and I were long acquaintedD
And I knew all her waysB
-
On russet floors by waters idleE
The pine lets fall its coneF
The cuckoo shouts all day at nothingA
In leafy dells aloneF
And traveller s joy beguiles in autumnG
Hearts that have lost their ownF
-
On acres of the seeded grassesH
The changing burnish heavesI
Or marshalled under moons of harvestJ
Stand still all night the sheavesI
Or beeches strip in storms for winterC
And stain the wind with leavesI
-
Posses as I possessed a seasonK
The countries I resignL
Where over elmy plains the highwayM
Would mount the hills and shineL
And full of shade the pillared forestJ
Would murmur and be mineL
-
For nature heartless witless natureC
Will neither care nor knowN
What stranger s feet may find the meadowN
And trespass there and goN
Nor ask amid the dews of morningA
If they are mine or noN
