Reveille Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BCBC ADAD EFEF EGEG EHEH

Wake the silver dusk returningA
Up the beach of darkness brimsB
And the ship of sunrise burningA
Strands upon the eastern rimsB
-
Wake the vaulted shadow shattersB
Trampled to the floor it spannedC
And the tent of night in tattersB
Straws the sky pavilioned landC
-
Up lad up 'tis late for lyingA
Hear the drums of morning playD
Hark the empty highways cryingA
Who'll beyond the hills awayD
-
Towns and countries woo togetherE
Forelands beacon belfries callF
Never lad that trod on leatherE
Lived to feast his heart with allF
-
Up lad thews that lie and cumberE
Sunlit pallets never thriveG
Morns abed and daylight slumberE
Were not meant for man aliveG
-
Clay lies still but blood's a roverE
Breath's a ware that will not keepH
Up lad when the journey's overE
There'll be time enough to sleepH
