Oh see how thick the goldcup flowersA
Are lying in field and laneB
With dandelions to tell the hoursA
That never are told againC
Oh may I squire you round the meadsD
And pick you posies gayE
'Twill do no harm to take my armF
You may young man you mayE
-
Ah spring was sent for lass and ladG
'Tis now the blood runs goldH
And man and maid had best be gladG
Before the world is oldH
What flowers to day may flower to morrowI
But never as good as newJ
Suppose I wound my arm right roundK
'Tis true young man 'tis trueJ
-
Some lads there are 'tis shame to sayE
That only court to thieveL
And once they bear the bloom awayE
'Tis little enough they leaveL
Then keep your heart for men like meM
And safe from trustless chapsN
My love is true and all for youJ
Perhaps young man perhapsN
-
Oh look in my eyes then can you doubtO
Why 'tis a mile from townP
How green the grass is all aboutO
We might as well sit downP
Ah life what is it but a flowerQ
Why must true lovers sighL
Be kind have pity my own my prettyM
Good bye young man good byeL
