Clunton and ClunburyA
Clungunford and ClunB
Are the quietest placesC
Under the sunB
-
-
In valleys of springs and riversD
By Ony and Teme and ClunB
The country for easy liversD
The quietest under the sunB
-
We still had sorrows to lightenB
One could not be always gladE
And lads knew trouble at KnightonB
When I was a Knighton ladE
-
By bridges that Thames runs underA
In London the town built illF
'Tis sure small matter for wonderA
If sorrow is with one stillF
-
And if as a lad grows olderA
The troubles he bears are moreA
He carries his griefs on a shoulderA
That handselled them long beforeA
-
Where shall one halt to deliverA
This luggage I'd lief set downB
Not Thames not Teme is the riverA
Nor London nor Knighton the townB
-
'Tis a long way further than KnightonB
A quieter place than ClunB
Where doomsday may thunder and lightenB
And little 'twill matter to oneB
