Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF GHG GIGIJFJF KLKL MNM

When runnels began to leap and singA
And daffodil sheaths to blowB
Then out of the thicket came blue eyed SpringA
And laughed at the melting snowB
It is time old Winter you went '' she saidC
And flitted across the plainD
With an iris scarf around her headC
And diamonded with rainD
-
When the hawthorn put off her bridal veilE
And the nightingale's nocturn diedF
Then Summer came forth with her milking pailE
And hunted the Spring and criedF
It is time you went you have had your share ''-
And she carolled a love song sweetG
With eglantine ravelled about her hairH
And butter cup dust on her feetG
-
When the pears swelled juicy the apples sweetG
And thatched was the new ricked hayI
And August was bronzing the stripling wheatG
Then Summer besought to stayI
But Autumn came from the red roofed farmJ
And 'Tis time that you went '' repliedF
With an amber sheaf on her nut brown armJ
And her sickle athwart her sideF
-
When the farmer railed at the hireling slutK
And fingered his fatted beevesL
And Autumn groped for the last stray nutK
In the drift of her littered leavesL
It is time you went from the lifeless land ''-
Bawled Winter then whistled weirdM
With a log for his hearth in his chilblained handN
And sleet in his grizzled beardM
