Too Late Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDFGHGHIIHad you but shown me living what you show | A |
Now I am gone to keep my grave plot green | B |
And I but known what vainly now I know | A |
Lying here alone how happy had I been | C |
If you with smiles had gladdened our joint home | D |
As now you drench my tenement with tears | E |
Up life's ascent together had we clomb | D |
And traversed hand in hand the slope of years | F |
Still is it solacing to feel you lay | G |
Upon my sepulchre devoted flowers | H |
When hitherward you wend your widowed way | G |
'Neath scorching sunshine or through drifting showers | H |
Pity that love is ofttimes forced by Fate | I |
In this unpunctual World to come too late | I |
