The Spring time O the Spring timeA
Who does not know it wellB
When the little birds begin to buildC
And the buds begin to swellB
When the sun with the clouds plays hide and seekD
And the lambs are bucking and bleatingD
And the colour mounts to the maiden's cheekD
And the cuckoo scatters greetingD
In the Spring time joyous Spring timeA
-
The Summer O the SummerE
Who does not know it wellB
When the ringdoves coo the long day throughF
And the bee refills his cellB
When the swish of the mower is heard at mornG
And we all in the woods go roamingD
And waiting is over and love is bornG
And shy lips meet in the gloamingD
In the Summer ripening SummerE
-
The Autumn O the AutumnH
Who does not know it wellB
When the leaf turns brown and the mast drops downI
And the chestnut splits its shellB
When we muse o'er the days that have gone beforeJ
And the days that will follow afterE
When the grain lies deep on the winnowing floorJ
And the plump gourd hangs from the rafterE
In the Autumn thoughtful AutumnH
-
The Winter O the WinterE
Who does not know it wellB
When day after day the fields stretch grayK
And the peewit wails on the fellB
When we close up the crannies and shut out the coldL
And the wind sounds hoarse and hollowM
And our dead loves sleep in the churchyard mouldL
And we feel that we soon shall followM
In the Winter mournful WinterE
