IA
Angels their silvery trumpets blowB
At dawn to greet the Morning GlowB
And mortals lift adoring eyesC
To see the glorious sun ariseC
Then winged by Faith and spurred by HopeD
Youth scans the hill youth scales the slopeD
Its pulses bound its thoughts exultE
It finds no danger difficultE
Quickens its pace disdaining easeF
Victor before it comes and seesF
Feeling the Universe its ownG
The Sovereign of a Self made ThroneG

Each hope fulfilled obtained each prayerH
We glory in the Noonday GlareH
Welcome the blinding heat of strifeI
Deeming resistance part of lifeI
We deal the blow return the strokeJ
Fighting our way through dust and smokeJ
Until our battle banner furledE
We tower above a conquered WorldE
Whether one leads mankind alongK
By gift of speech or grace of songK
Seizes by forceful hand the helmL
Or adds an Empire to the RealmL
Confronts the sun with forehead bareH
Exulting in the Noonday GlareH
-
IIIA
But as the lengthening shadows glideE
Silent towards the eventideE
And dew baptizes leaf and flowerM
In twilight's sanctuary hourM
A sacred Something haunts the airH
Tender as love devout as prayerH
And in the lofty dome afarN
Glimmers one bright outriding starN
Announcing to the watchful sightE
Coming battalions of the NightE
Then Noonday Glare and Morning GlowB
Fade into shadowy Long agoB
One feels Earth's vain ambitions fadeE
Into the vanished dust they madeE
-
All that the glow of dawn foretoldE
And all the glare of noon unrolledE
Seem nothing to the quiet joyO
No clamour mars no cares destroyO
'Twixt restless day and restful nightE
That cometh with the Evening LightE
