The Aquittal Of Phryne Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBABCBCCB

When Athens challenged Phryne to confessA
Eleusis' self sufficed not to appalB
Her impious tread and throned within their HallB
The awful judges frowned on her distressA
Slowly her lovely limbs she did undressA
Swathe upon swathe fold after fold let fallB
Until she stood absolved before them allB
Clad in her clear convincing nakednessA
So when the slaves of custom would controlB
Your range of feeling and your realm of thoughtC
And close you half the world who claim the wholeB
Show them your inmost self keep back not aughtC
By your mind's beauty be their bias boughtC
And sway by bare simplicity of soulB
