Take Not The Gods To Task, For They Are Wise Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACCDEDFGFGHI

Take not the Gods to task for they are wiseA
When they refuse no less than when they grantB
Thou canst but know with all thy bursting sighsA
What is thy whim but never what thy wantC
Did they to smite thine importunityC
Answer each swift unregulated prayerD
Oh what accurs d trudger woulds thou beE
And what a world of fardels have to bearD
Check thy lament The days will surely comeF
Thou wilt regard each crossed or shattered hopeG
As now thou dost poor Philip's broken drumF
Or little Rosie's tangled skipping ropeG
Confide in Time who will as years expireH
Indulge or else annihilate desireI
