Stafford Henry Northcote Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECCDGentle in fibre but of steadfast nerve | A |
Still to do right though right won blame not praise | B |
And fallen on evil tongues and evil days | B |
When men from plain straight duty twist and swerve | A |
And born to nobly sway ignobly serve | A |
Sliming their track to power through tortuous ways | B |
He felt with that fine sense that ne'er betrays | B |
The line of moral beauty's not a curve | A |
But proving wisdom folly virtue vain | C |
He stretched his hands out to the other shore | D |
And was by kindred spirits beckoned o'er | E |
Into the gloaming Land where setteth pain | C |
While we across the silent river strain | C |
Idly our gaze and find his form no more | D |
