Stafford Henry Northcote Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECCD

Gentle in fibre but of steadfast nerveA
Still to do right though right won blame not praiseB
And fallen on evil tongues and evil daysB
When men from plain straight duty twist and swerveA
And born to nobly sway ignobly serveA
Sliming their track to power through tortuous waysB
He felt with that fine sense that ne'er betraysB
The line of moral beauty's not a curveA
But proving wisdom folly virtue vainC
He stretched his hands out to the other shoreD
And was by kindred spirits beckoned o'erE
Into the gloaming Land where setteth painC
While we across the silent river strainC
Idly our gaze and find his form no moreD
