Nocturnal Vigils Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBAACCAAD| Why do you chide me that when mortals yield | A |
| To slumber's charm from sleep I ask no boon | B |
| But from my casement watch the maim d moon | B |
| Fainting behind her ineffectual shield | A |
| Unto the chime by stately planets pealed | A |
| My song my soul my very self attune | B |
| And nightly see what none can see at noon | B |
| The runic volume of the sky unsealed | A |
| Haply the hour may come when grateful Night | A |
| Will these brief vigils endlessly repay | C |
| And on the dwindling of my earthly day | C |
| Keep like her stars my heavenly fancies bright | A |
| And glorious dreamings shrouded now from sight | A |
| Dawn out of darkness not to sleep for aye | D |
