Once again banners flyA
Clang again bells on highA
Sounding to sea and skyA
Longer and louderB
Mafeking's glory withC
Kimberley LadysmithC
Of our unconquered kithC
Prouder and prouderB
-
Hemmed in for half a yearD
Still with no succour nearD
Nor word of hope to cheerD
Wounded and dyingE
Famished and foiled of sleepF
By the fierce cannon's leapF
They vowed still still to keepF
England's Flag flyingE
-
Nor was their mettle shownG
By male and strong aloneG
But as intrepid grownG
Fragile and tenderB
Without or tear or sighA
Echoed the brave old cryA
We too would rather dieA
Die than surrender ''-
-
As pressed the foe more nearD
Only with naked spearD
Ne'er knowing what to fearD
Parley or blench meantH
Forward through shot and shellI
While still the foremost fellI
They with resistless yellI
Stormed his entrenchmentJ
-
Then when hope dawned at lastK
And fled the foe aghastK
At the relieving blastK
Heard in the melleyL
O our stout stubborn kithC
Kimberley LadysmithC
Mafeking wedded withC
Lucknow and DelhiL
-
Sound for them martial layM
Crown them with battle bayM
Both those who died and theyM
'Gainst death could wrestleN
Powell of endless fameO
All all with equal claimO
And of the storied nameO
Gallant young CecilN
-
Long as the waves shall rollP
Long as Fame guards her scrollP
And men through heart and soulP
Thrill to true gloryL
Their deed from age to ageQ
Shall voice and verse engageQ
Swelling the splendid pageQ
Of England's StoryL
