In Sutton Woods Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI BJBJ KLKM NONO PQPQ RSRS TUTU

There peace once more the restless roarA
Of troubled cities dies awayB
Welcome to our broad shade once more ''C
The dear old woodlands seem to sayB
-
The sweet suggestions of the windD
That spake in whispers now are stilledE
The songless branches all remindD
That summer's glory is fulfilledE
-
The petulant plaint of falling leavesF
Dimples the leaden pool awhileG
So Age impassive but receivesF
Youth's tale of troubles with a smileG
-
O fallen leaves O feelings deadH
O dimpled pool O scornful lipsI
O hardening of the heart and headH
The summer's and the soul's eclipseI
-
Thus as the seasons slip awayB
How much is schemed how little doneJ
What splendid plans at break of dayB
What void regrets at set of sunJ
-
The world goes round for you for meK
For him who sits for him who strivesL
And the great Fates indifferent seeK
The rage or respite of our livesM
-
Then fall ye leaves die out thou breezeN
Grow sedges thick on every poolO
Let each old rushing impulse freezeN
Let each old generous friendship coolO
-
It is not love it is not worthP
Self sacrifice or yearnings trueQ
Make the dull devotees of earthP
Prostrate themselves and worship youQ
-
The savage consciousness of powersR
The selfish purpose stubborn willS
Have ever in this world of oursR
Achieved success achieve it stillS
-
Farewell ye woods no more I sitT
Great voices in the distance callU
If this be peace enough of itT
I go Fall unseen foliage fallU
