Hush or you'll wake her Softly treadA
She slumbers in her little bedA
What do I see A coffin DeadA
Yes dead at break of morningB
-
No no it cannot cannot beC
I know that I can wake her SeeC
She only plays at sleep Ma mieD
Kiss me for it is morningB
-
Look pretty look Within withoutE
Snowdrops and hyacinths lie aboutE
Why don't you clutch them with a shoutE
Blither than birds of morningB
-
You used to clap your hands with gleeC
When I brought flowers Are these for me ''-
Now now you neither scent nor seeC
These incense buds of morningB
-
Do you not know me pet Speak speakF
There is no answer in her cheekF
To find her now where shall I seekF
Seek in the vanished morningB
-
What can I do to make her heedG
I am crying love I am indeedG
Open your eyes and see What needG
To tease me all the morningB
-
Look We will sally forth and playH
Ramble and never ask our wayH
Lessons and tasks all put awayH
As though it were not morningB
-
We will do all that you desireI
And I will never never tireI
Of romping with you by the fireI
When 'tis no longer morningB
-
Your favourite tales oft told beforeJ
I'll tell you darling o'er and o'erI
It never shall be bedtime moreJ
Will you but wake this morningB
-
I will not ask you to sit stillK
You shall be naughty when you willK
Shall spill my ink and spoil my quillK
And squander all my morningB
-
Alas Alas it is no cheatL
Quiet she lies from face to feetL
No smile no sigh no hue no heatL
No earnest of the morningB
-
Draw high the sheet above her headA
She liked it so Dead No not deadA
The angels hovering round her bedA
Will greet her in the morningB
