A Birthday Present Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFEF GHGH IJKJ LMLN COC

Say what to please you you would have me be ''A
Then listen dearB
I fain would have you very fair to seeC
And sweet to hearD
-
You should have Aphrodite's form and faceE
With Dian's treadF
And something of Minerva's lofty graceE
Should crown your headF
-
Summer should wander in your voice and SpringG
Gleam in your gazeH
And pure thoughts ripen in your heart that bringG
Calm Autumn daysH
-
Yours should be winning ways that make Love liveI
And ne'er grow oldJ
With ever something yet more sweet to giveK
Which you withholdJ
-
You should have generous hopes that can beguileL
Life's doubts and fearsM
And ever waiting on your April smileL
The gift of tearsN
-
You should be close to us as earth and seaC
And yet as farO
As Heaven itself In sooth I'd have you beC
Just what you are '-
