Thoughts Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQDQR FSFTFUVWGEQF| If I walk the noisy streets | A |
| Or enter a many thronged church | B |
| Or sit among the wild young generation | C |
| I give way to my thoughts | D |
| I say to myself the years are fleeting | E |
| And however many there seem to be | F |
| We must all go under the eternal vault | G |
| And someone s hour is already at hand | H |
| When I look at a solitary oak | I |
| I think the patriarch of the woods | J |
| It will outlive my forgotten age | K |
| As it outlived that of my grandfathers | L |
| If I dandle a young infant | M |
| Immediately I think farewell | N |
| I will yield my place to you | O |
| For I must fade while your flower blooms | P |
| Each day and every hour | Q |
| I habitually follow in my thoughts | D |
| Trying to guess from their number | Q |
| The year which brings my death | R |
| And where will fate send death to me | F |
| In battle in my travels or on the seas | S |
| Or will the neighbouring valley | F |
| Receive my chilled ashes | T |
| And although to the senseless body | F |
| It is indifferent wherever it rots | U |
| Yet close to my beloved countryside | V |
| I still would prefer to rest | W |
| And let it be beside the grave s vault | G |
| That young life forever will be playing | E |
| And impartial indifferent nature | Q |
| Eternally be shining in beauty | F |
