The Memorial Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB CDED FGHG IJKJ CLLL

Beyond compare the monument I have erectedA
And to this spirit column well worn the people's pathB
Its head defiant will out soar that famous pillarC
The Emperor Alexander hathB
-
I shall not vanish wholly No but young foreverC
My spirit will live on within my lyre will ringD
And men within this world shall hold me in remembranceE
While yet one Singer lives to singD
-
My glory shall in future fly through distant RussiaF
Each race in its own tongue shall name me far and wideG
The Slav the Finn the Kalmyk all shall know meH
The Tungoose in his reindeer hideG
-
Among my people I shall be long loved and cherishedI
Because their noblest instincts I have e'er inflamedJ
In evil hours I lit their hearts with fires of freedomK
And never for their pleasures blamedJ
-
O Muse pursue the calling of thy Gods foreverC
Strive not for the garland nor look upon the painL
Unmoved support the voice of scorn or of laudationL
And argument with Fools disdainL
