Father of all In every ageA
In ev'ry clime ador'dB
By saint by savage and by sageA
Jehovah Jove or LordB
-
Thou Great First Cause least understoodC
Who all my sense confin'dD
To know but this that Thou art goodC
And that myself am blindD
-
Yet gave me in this dark estateE
To see the good from illF
And binding Nature fast in FateE
Left free the human WillF
-
What Conscience dictates to be doneG
Or warns me not to doH
This teach me more than Hell to shunG
That more than Heav'n pursueH
-
What blessings thy free bounty givesI
Let me not cast awayJ
For God is paid when man receivesK
T' enjoy is to obeyJ
-
Yet not to earth's contracted spanL
Thy goodness let me boundM
Or think thee Lord alone of manL
When thousand worlds are roundM
-
Let not this weak unknowing handN
Presume thy bolts to throwO
And teach damnation round the landN
On each I judge thy foeO
-
If I am right thy grace impartP
Still in the right to stayJ
If I am wrong O teach my heartP
To find that better wayJ
-
Save me alike from foolish PrideQ
Or impious DiscontentR
At aught thy wisdom has deniedQ
Or aught that goodness lentR
-
Teach me to feel another's woeO
To right the fault I seeS
That mercy I to others showO
That mercy show to meS
-
Mean tho' I am not wholly soO
Since quicken'd by thy breathT
O lead me whereso'er I goO
Thro' this day's life or deathT
-
This day be bread and peace my lotU
All else beneath the sunG
Though know'st if best bestow'd or notU
And let Thy will be doneG
-
To Thee whose temple is of SpaceV
Whose altar earth sea skiesW
One chorus let all Beings raiseX
All Nature's incense riseW
