To Mr. Thomas Southern, On His Birth-day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEEFFCCGGDDHHII

Resign'd to live prepar'd to dieA
With not one sin but poetryB
This day Tom's fair account has runC
Without a blot to eighty oneC
Kind Boyle before his poet laysD
A table with a cloth of baysD
And Ireland mother of sweet singersE
Presents her harp still to his fingersE
The feast his tow'ring genius marksF
In yonder wild goose and the larksF
The mushrooms shew his wit was suddenC
And for his judgement lo a puddenC
Roast beef tho' old proclaims him stoutG
And grace altho' a bard devoutG
May Tom whom heav'n send down to raiseD
The price of prologues and of playsD
He ev'ry birth day more a winnerH
Digest his thirty thousandth dinnerH
Walk to his grave without reproachI
And scorn a rascal and a coachI
