In Imitation Of Cowley : The Garden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFGHIIJJKLMM EEJJNNOOPP

Fain would my Muse the flow'ry Treasures singA
And humble glories of the youthful SpringA
Where opening Roses breathing sweets diffuseB
And soft Carnations show'r their balmy dewsC
Where Lilies smile in virgin robes of whiteD
The thin Undress of superficial LightD
And vary'd Tulips show so dazzling gayE
Blushing in bright diversities of dayE
Each painted flow'ret in the lake belowF
Surveys its beauties whence its beauties growF
And pale Narcissus on the bank in vainG
Transformed gazes on himself againH
Here aged trees Cathedral Walks composeI
And mount the Hill in venerable rowsI
There the green Infants in their beds are laidJ
The Garden's Hope and its expected shadeJ
Here Orange trees with blooms and pendantis shineK
And vernal honours to their autumn joinL
Exceed their promise in the ripen'd storeM
Yet in the rising blossom promise moreM
There in bright drops the crystal Fountains playE
By Laurels shielded from the piercing dayE
Where Daphne now a tree as once a maidJ
Still from Apollo vindicates her shadeJ
Still turns her Beauties from th' invading beamN
Nor seeks in vain for succour to the StreamN
The stream at once preserves her virgin leavesO
At once a shelter from her boughs receivesO
Where Summer's beauty midst of Winter staysP
And Winter's Coolness spite of Summer's raysP
