Argus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEEFF GGHIJJKK

When wise Ulysses from his native coastA
Long kept by wars and long by tempests toss'dB
Arrived at last poor old disguised aloneC
To all his friends and ev'n his Queen unknownC
Changed as he was with age and toils and caresD
Furrow'd his rev'rend face and white his hairsD
In his own palace forc'd to ask his breadE
Scorn'd by those slaves his former bounty fedE
Forgot of all his own domestic crewF
The faithful Dog alone his rightful master knewF
-
Unfed unhous'd neglected on the clayG
Like an old servant now cashier'd he layG
Touch'd with resentment of ungrateful manH
And longing to behold his ancient lord againI
Him when he saw he rose and crawl'd to meetJ
'Twas all he could and fawn'd and kiss'd his feetJ
Seiz'd with dumb joy then falling by his sideK
Own'd his returning lord look'd up and diedK
