Pater Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH

I had so much to tell youA
A while ago awayB
And although our tidings fewA
There seemed so much to sayB
When you were old Whilst I was youngC
I might have listened whenD
A weave of words together strungC
Were tendered now and thenD
-
But note the hour has wandered lateE
And dulls the muse of mindF
Time and tide for no man waitE
Ago remains behindF
So words unspoken not to knowG
Are words that time forgotH
They mattered to me then agoG
But now they matter notH
