In The Cool Night Air Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL MNMNOPOP

The bistred day has fallen stillA
A darkened mead hangs overheadB
The hush within the evening chillA
Chants now the yore is gone to bedB
A gently breeze steals from the westC
Cool along the shadowed lanesD
The sunburned broil now at restC
Its warmth has gone though still remainsD
-
The cool night air stands all aloneE
Anon the past has gone to sleepF
Daytime secrets tossed and blownE
The faithful night for ere to keepF
Secrets that the breeze fears speakG
Winnowing in the night time swellH
Brushing eastward 'gainst your cheekG
The whispered wind mayn't kiss n tellH
-
Evensong is served this eveI
All around the moonlit shrineJ
Absolution cedes when you believeI
The cool night air is sweet as wineJ
Drink your fill in solemn thoughtK
Let your mind escape withinL
Cleanse your conscience ever fraughtK
Save your soul Confess your sinL
-
Here beneath a cloudless skyM
You're not alone You seldom areN
Within the dim nocturnals flyM
As someone watches from afarN
So mediate your faith elateO
Ruminate and yet bewareP
Intoxicate your mindless stateO
Drinking in the cool night airP
