By The Still Water's Edge Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGHGIJIJ KLKLMNMNI gazed down from the water's side | A |
To see a silver gleam | B |
And standing staring looked and tried | A |
To see beyond the stream | B |
The clearest water sparkling pure | C |
Below me stilled and calm | D |
Its cooling soothing fooling lure | C |
Seductive in its charm | E |
- | |
I saw a young man peering on | F |
With eyes that conquered all | G |
But in a moment he was gone | H |
Uncanny I recall | G |
Beneath the surface he was there | I |
A soul of twenty four | J |
Then vanished in the swell somewhere | I |
And left me by the shore | J |
- | |
Again he came when it was staid | K |
And braved another glance | L |
Had I his acquaintance made | K |
Long by go by chance | L |
He spoke and told me in a rhyme | M |
He yearned that he was me | N |
Though musing swept me back in time | M |
I longed that I was he | N |
