There once was a Dormouse who lived in a bedA
Of delphiniums blue and geraniums redA
And all the day long he'd a wonderful viewB
Of geraniums red and delphiniums blueB
-
A Doctor came hurrying round and he saidA
Tut tut I am sorry to find you in bedA
Just say 'Ninety nine' while I look at your chestC
Don't you find that chrysanthemums answer the bestC
-
The Dormouse looked round at the view and repliedD
When he'd said Ninety nine that he'd tried and he'd triedD
And much the most answering things that he knewB
Were geraniums red and delphiniums blueB
-
The Doctor stood frowning and shaking his headA
And he took up his shiny silk hat as he saidA
What the patient requires is a change and he wentE
To see some chrysanthemum people in KentE
-
The Dormouse lay there and he gazed at the viewB
Of geraniums red and delphiniums blueB
And he knew there was nothing he wanted insteadA
Of delphiniums blue and geraniums redA
-
The Doctor came back and to show what he meantE
He had brought some chrysanthemum cuttings from KentE
Now these he remarked give a much better viewB
Than geraniums red and delphiniums blueB
-
They took out their spades and they dug up the bedA
Of delphiniums blue and geraniums redA
And they planted chrysanthemums yellow and whiteF
And now said the Doctor we'll soon have you rightF
-
The Dormouse looked out and he said with a sighG
I suppose all these people know better than IG
It was silly perhaps but I did like the viewB
Of geraniums red and delphiniums blueB
-
The Doctor came round and examined his chestC
And ordered him Nourishment Tonics and RestC
How very effective he said as he shookH
The thermometer all these chrysanthemums lookH
-
The Dormouse turned over to shut out the sightF
Of the endless chrysanthemums yellow and whiteF
How lovely he thought to be back in a bedA
Of delphiniums blue and geraniums redA
-
The Doctor said Tut It's another attackI
And ordered him Milk and Massage of the backI
And Freedom from worry and Drives in a carJ
And murmured How sweet your chrysanthemums areJ
-
The Dormouse lay there with his paws to his eyesK
And imagined himself such a pleasant surpriseK
I'll pretend the chrysanthemums turn to a bedA
Of delphiniums blue and geraniums redA
-
The Doctor next morning was rubbing his handsL
And saying There's nobody quite understandsL
These cases as I do The cure has begunM
How fresh the chrysanthemums look in the sunM
-
The Dormouse lay happy his eyes were so tightF
He could see no chrysanthemums yellow or whiteF
And all that he felt at the back of his headA
Were delphiniums blue and geraniums redA
-
And that is the reason Aunt Emily saidA
If a Dormouse gets in a chrysanthemum bedA
You will find so Aunt Emily says that he liesK
Fast asleep on his front with his paws to his eyesK
