The Decree Of Athena Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEGHHEIHFJKHLEH HHEFHMEFHHE

Hear ye my statute men of AtticaA
Ye who of bloodshed judge this primal causeB
Yea and in future age shall Aegeus's hostC
Revere this court of jurors This the hillD
Of Ares seat of Amazons their tentE
What time 'gainst Theseus breathing hate they cameF
Waging fierce battle and their towers uprearedE
A counter fortress to AcropolisG
To Ares they did sacrifice and henceH
This rock is titled AreopagusH
Here then shall sacred Awe to Fear alliedE
By day and night my lieges hold from wrongI
Save if themselves do innovate my lawsH
If thou with mud or influx base bedimF
The sparkling water nought thou'lt find to drinkJ
Nor Anarchy nor Tyrant's lawless ruleK
Commend I to my people's reverenceH
Nor let them banish from their city FearL
For who 'mong men uncurbed by fear is justE
Thus holding Awe in seemly reverenceH
A bulwark for your State shall ye possessH
A safeguard to protect your city wallsH
Such as no mortals otherwhere can boastE
Neither in Scythia nor in Pelops's realmF
Behold This Court august untouched by bribesH
Sharp to avenge wakeful for those who sleepM
Establish I a bulwark to this landE
This charge extending to all future timeF
I give my lieges Meet it as ye riseH
Assume the pebbles and decide the causeH
Your oath revering All hath now been saidE
