Lay me low my work is doneA
I am weary Lay me lowB
Where the wild flowers woo the sunA
Where the balmy breezes blowB
Where the butterfly takes wingC
Where the aspens drooping growB
Where the young birds chirp and singC
I am weary let me goB
-
I have striven hard and longD
In the world's unequal fightE
Always to resist the wrongD
Always to maintain the rightE
Always with a stubborn heartF
Taking giving blow for blowB
Brother I have played my partF
And am weary let me goB
-
Stern the world and bitter coldG
Irksome painful to endureH
Everywhere a love of goldG
Nowhere pity for the poorI
Everywhere mistrust disguiseJ
Pride hypocrisy and showB
Draw the curtains close mine eyesJ
I am weary let me goB
-
Other chance when I am goneK
May restore the battle callL
Bravely lead the good cause onM
Fighting in the which I fallL
God may quicken some true soulN
Here to take my place belowB
In the heroes' muster rollN
I am weary let me goB
-
Shield and buckler hang them upO
Drape the standards on the wallL
I have drained the mortal cupO
To the finish dregs and allL
When our work is done 'tis bestP
Brother best that we should goB
I am weary let me restP
I am weary lay me lowB
