The Last Leap Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAABB CDCCDD EFEEGG HBHHBB IJIKJJ LMLLMM NONNOO PQPRQQ

All is over fleet careerA
Dash of greyhound slipping thongsB
Flight of falcon bound of deerA
Mad hoof thunder in our rearA
Cold air rushing up our lungsB
Din of many tonguesB
-
Once again one struggle goodC
One vain effort he must dwellD
Near the shifted post that stoodC
Where the splinters of the woodC
Lying in the torn tracks tellD
How he struck and fellD
-
Crest where cold drops beaded clingE
Small ear drooping nostril fullF
Glazing to a scarlet ringE
Flanks and haunches quiveringE
Sinews stiff'ning void and nullG
Dumb eyes sorrowfulG
-
Satin coat that seems to shineH
Duller now black braided tressB
That a softer hand than mineH
Far away was wont to twineH
That in meadows far from thisB
Softer lips might kissB
-
All is over this is deathI
And I stand to watch thee dieJ
Brave old horse with 'bated breathI
Hardly drawn through tight clenched teethK
Lip indented deep but eyeJ
Only dull and dryJ
-
Musing on the husk and chaffL
Gather'd where life's tares are sownM
Thus I speak and force a laughL
That is half a sneer and halfL
An involuntary groanM
In a stifled toneM
-
Rest old friend thy day though rifeN
With its toil hath ended soonO
We have had our share of strifeN
Tumblers in the mask of lifeN
In the pantomime of noonO
Clown and pantaloonO
-
With the flash that ends thy painP
Respite and oblivion blestQ
Come to greet thee I in vainP
Fall I rise to fall againR
Thou hast fallen to thy restQ
And thy fall is bestQ
