The congregation shall be desired secretly in their prayers to make their humbleA
supplications to GodB
for the which prayers there shall be silence kept for aC
spaceD
-
NoE
O Holy spirit we entreatB
Send down Thy quickening fireF
Let Thine own presence dread and sweetB
These waiting hearts inspireG
-
In every thought and word and deedB
Breathe Thou the breath of lifeH
The fulness of the grace they needB
For their appointed strifeH
-
Help them to hold in clasp of prayerI
The rod and staff of GodB
And lead them safely surely whereI
The Christ Himself hath trodB
-
Give power to speak Thy message LordB
To every feeble voiceJ
May they the true seed cast abroadB
Till desert wastes rejoiceJ
-
Make strong the toiling hearts and handsK
Keep watching eyes from sleepL
That golden harvests crown the landsK
When angels come to reapL
-
-
-
NoE
POUR now O Lord all gifts of graceD
From Thy most holy dwelling placeD
And let the living flame be shedB
On each disciple's bended headB
-
Light up his soul with light divineM
A star of heaven on earth to shineM
A beacon on life's stormy seaN
To guide the wandering bark to TheeN
-
Lord clothe him now in white completeB
-
In Thine own spirit pure and sweetB
Let him go forth to labour wellO
In truth and strength invincibleA
-
May his calm lips that whisper nowP
The yearning prayer the solemn vowP
Be ready in the judgment dayB
The faithful servant's words to sayB
-
Lord I have tried in faithful strifeH
To win Thy lambs to light and lifeH
Lord I have truly kept for TheeN
The awful charge Thou gavest meN
