Recollection Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH CICI AJAK ALAL MCMCNMNM CFCF

Awawe worn boulder with green sea moss wrappingA
A silken mantle o'er its jagged sidesB
And silvery seething waters softly lappingA
Through gulfs and channels hollow'd by the tidesB
-
A lime cliff overhead o'erhanging grimlyC
A dash of sunlight on its breast of snowD
The white line of the breakers stretching dimlyC
Along the narrow sea beach down belowD
-
The grey waste of the waters with one slenderE
Glimmering golden ripple far awayF
The haze of summer twilight sweet and tenderE
Veiling the fair face of the dying dayF
-
The measured plash of surf upon the shingleG
The ceaseless gurgle through the rocks and stonesH
No sound of struggling human life to mingleG
With those mysterious and eternal tonesH
-
No sound no sound a hungry sea mew onlyC
Breaking the stillness with her little cryI
And the low whisper when 'tis all so lonelyC
Of soft south breezes as they wander byI
-
I see it all sweet dreams of it are throngingA
In full floods back upon my weary brainJ
To night in my dark chamber the old longingA
Almost fulfils its very self againK
-
The dying sunbeams on the far waves glintingA
Come like warm kisses to my lips and browL
Soothing my spirit all its grey thoughts tintingA
With tender shades of golden colour nowL
-
Alone and still I sit and think and listenM
Looking out westward o'er the darkening seaC
My seat the boulder where the spray drops glistenM
The tall white cliffs my regal canopyC
And as I sit the fretting cares and sorrowsN
Weighing so heavy when the work is doneM
The gloomy yesterdays and dim to morrowsN
They slip away and vanish one by oneM
-
Slip backward to the world that lies behind meC
Ever by sinful footsteps overtrodF
And in this unstain'd world leave nought to bind meC
This sweet world fill d with the peace of GodF
