Profit And Loss Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDECFE

Each day a new sword flashes in the vanA
Another leader brave to do or dieB
Comes forth full furnished for the strife wherebyB
He gains his growth and stature as a manA
Each day our world that under the black banA
Of ignorant custom for so long did lieB
Grows bright and brighter like a clearing skyB
More good and lovely in its wondrous planA
-
Yet oh how few the saved how small the gainC
How poor the profit as against the costD
The waste of life divinely vast and fairE
Potential in starved soul and unfed brainC
The powers that might have been and might be lostF
Only for want of common food and airE
