Despair Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDECDE

Alone Alone No beacon far or nearA
nbsp nbsp nbsp No chart no compass and no anchor stayB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Like melting fog the mirage melts awayB
In all surrounding darkness void and clearA
Drifting I spread vain hands and vainly peerA
nbsp nbsp nbsp And vainly call for pilot weep and prayB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Beyond these limits not the faintest rayB
Shows distant coast whereto the lost may steerA
-
O what is life if we must hold it thusC
nbsp nbsp nbsp As wind blown sparks hold momentary fireD
nbsp nbsp nbsp What are these gifts without the larger boonE
O what is art or wealth or fame to usC
nbsp nbsp nbsp Who scarce have time to know what we desireD
nbsp nbsp nbsp O what is love if we must part so soonE
