At Long Last Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DEFFGG HIJJKL MMNNOO PPQQRS TTTTEE

Late late the prize is drawn the goal attainedA
The Heart's Desire fulfilled Love's guerdon gainedA
Wealth's use is past Fame's crown of laurel mocksB
The downward drooping head and grizzled locksB
The end is reached the end of toil and strifeC
The end of lifeC
-
Love flowers and fades like grass and flowers againD
The spendthrift lovers waste themselves in vainE
Their fiery passions burn out one by oneF
And then alas when their best days are doneF
Spirit and body find their perfect mateG
So late So lateG
-
Long sought long seeking through the lonely yearsH
The wanderers meet to weep their useless tearsI
For time and chance irrevocably flownJ
Dear hopes outlived and happy faiths outgrownJ
Children unborn the myriad joys unseenK
That might have beenL
-
Not for the spring and morning time of youthM
The perfect flower of slow unfolding truthM
The perfect love that dreams of youth foretellN
But youth knows not and youth could never tellN
That light celestial as of sunset firesO
When day expiresO
-
Late comes the gift that crowns the hungry questP
Like ripe wheat harvest in a land at restP
And comes alone a consecrated cupQ
To those proved worthy to sit down and supQ
To them aye aye despite their treasure lostR
'T'is worth the costS
-
'T'is worth the cost to reach the heights at lastT
Ere eyes are dim and daylight overpastT
To see one aim achieved one dream fulfilledT
Ere striving brain and trusting heart are stilledT
To live one glorious hour its price of painE
Is never paid in vainE
