Sleep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBAA BDEEDFF CCCCGCC CHGGICC

In vain thou drowsy God I thee invokeA
For thou who dost from fumes ariseB
Thou who man's soul dost overshadeC
With a thick cloud by vapours madeC
Canst have no power to shut his eyesB
Or passage of his spirits to chokeA
Whose flame's so pure that it sends up no smokeA
-
Yet how do tears but from some vapours riseB
Tears that bewinter all my yearD
The fate of Egypt I sustainE
And never feel the dew of rainE
From clouds which in the head appearD
But all my too much moisture oweF
To overflowings of the heart belowF
-
Thou who dost men as nights to colours doC
Bring to an equalityC
Come thou just God and equal meC
Awhile to my disdainful SheC
In that condition let me lieG
Till Love does the favour shewC
Love equals all a better way than youC
-
Then never more shalt thou b' invok'd by meC
Watchful as spirits and Gods I'll proveH
Let her but grant and then will IG
Thee and thy kinsman Death defyG
For betwixt thee and them that loveI
Never will an agreement beC
Thou scorn'st th' unhappy and the happy theeC
